Sunset Après Snow

After Thanksgiving came the first real snow in New England. I woke up to snowflakes falling outside and frost on my window- a rude awakening that makes me think I'm not quite ready for winter. Although it remained bitter cold throughout the day, it cleared up around 3 just in time for a beautiful sunset; a throwback to summer and August days where I could always count on a pink and purple sunset before it got dark. Even if I may not be ready for shoveling snow and below-freezing temperatures, my wardrobe will be. Turtlenecks have definitely made a comeback this year and I personally love the bulky-sweater type (check out J. Crew Factory | Gap | Old Navy for other cute turtlenecks.) I kept my outfit super simple as I did not accessorize at all, yet still stylish with trendy items like the turtleneck

I'm loving black jeans this season; casual and convertible.

I got new Hunters for my birthday and am totally excited!

How gorgeous is this sunset? This picture may or may not be out of focus {I can't tell :)} but the scenery was worth showing.

Has it snowed yet wherever you guys are?

Houndstooth

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with lots of delicious food and surrounded by family! Also, good luck to all of you participating in Black Friday, I hope you find some great sales and avoid huge lines! In addition to Thanksgiving, yesterday was my birthday! My family and I celebrated turkey day a day early so that we could go into Boston for a delicious dinner on my birthday- I am so thankful for their holiday flexibility :) We wandered around Beacon Hill and took some blog pictures in my favorite dress. I purchased this crewcuts piece about a month ago when I saw it on Bess from bellesinbows.com and knew I had to have it for Thanksgiving! The thick navy material and textured houndstooth on the font create such a unique look that I absolutely adore.

There was barely anyone driving around the city yesterday, so for once it was easy to take a blog picture in the middle of the street.

We were walking around  Beacon Hill and one of the houses had Happy Birthday written on it, so naturally I had to take advantage of it and snap a quick picture!

I love the green shutters and window boxes on this house!

Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! We hope you had an amazing day filled with lots and lots of food and with wonderful friends and family. We are so thankful for all of you that read Preppy by the Sea, our family and friends. Reading comments, replying to emails and sharing little snip bits of our life with you on Instagram are somethings we truly love to do. We started this blog as simply a creative outlet and you have flourished it into something even more incredible. So, as you relax tonight (most likely induced in a  food coma) reflect on everything that you are thankful for because there truly is so much we take for granted. Once again, thank YOU for making our blogging experience that much better! What are you most thankful for this year?

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has been one of my favorite singers since her first album, Taylor Swift was released back in 2006. To be quite honest I have only listed to 1989 on loop for the past month... In addition to being incredibly musically talented, her style is also impeccable. She has such a unique and personal sense of style, which I absolutely love about her. She does not also conform to the latest trends and wearing what she personally enjoys. I would describe Taylor Swift's style as retro meets classic with a modern twist! Here are a few of my favorite looks!

I adore the flared skirt and the blush bag, such a simple but put together look.

"Cherry lips, crystal skies, I could show you incredible things"
If you have not seen her Blank Space music video yet you seriously need to open a new tab and head over to Youtube. The estate she filmed it at is amazing, her outfits are to die for and it is so well done!

This might be one of my favorite looks, partly because she is dressed in all Kate Spade, but she also looks stunning!

This two piece is gorgeous, I love the blush pink color.

I need this sweater!

This is such a simple and classic look, you really can't go wrong. I like how she played up the cable knit sweater with the texture of the flowy skirt! The curled pony tail is a nice touch as well.

I love the pea coat paired with the tartan scarf! This is the perfect look for strolling the city streets in early winter!

This is one of her more edgy looks, but it totally works and I love it!

This outfit is very classic. The fall hues, red lips and hair cut are perfection!

Personally, I think that she looks best in all black- I especially love her look in the Shake it Off music video!

I love the romper and the yellow heels add the perfect pop of color!

Which look is your favorite?

Men's Gift Guide With Tucker Blair

With Thanksgiving this Thursday, it is time to start getting into the holiday spirit (if you have not already). Last year our various gift guide posts were very popular, so we will be starting them up again today. We have teamed up with Tucker Blair, for our first gift guide. Tucker Blair is a Boston based company (Carly from The College Prepster  had a meet up at their showroom last month) that specializes in handmade needlepoint gifts. Personally, I think that shopping for guys is the hardest, whether it is your dad, brother, grandfather, uncle, husband or boyfriend, buying gifts for them can be quite frustrating. To be honest I usually just end up getting my dad stuff for golf or skiing. With the help of Tucker Blair your holiday shopping struggle can be fixed. Although most of their products are for men with a bit more preppy style, there is something for everyone. They have a wide variety of belts for both men and little boys, including nautical scenery, American flags, dogs, fish, state flags, sports and new designs from their Holiday Collection. Their coasterskey fobswallets and sunglass straps would also make great little gifts or stocking stuffers. In addition to all of these, you can also have things monogrammed! Order those sooner rather than later, so they can be wrapped and under the tree by Christmas! I hope this was helpful for anyone struggling with finding gifts for guys!

Thanksgiving Outfit Ideas

Thanksgiving is the kickoff to the most wonderful time of the year (and it's my birthday), so naturally I am pretty excited for Thursday! Once Thanksgiving comes around, I feel like the holiday season is in full swing and there is nothing I love more than the holidays! Family, delicious food and of course, great outfits are what I am most looking forward to. Most years, my family hosts Thanksgiving, so when it comes to picking out and outfit I don't have to think about bundling up to travel somewhere. I am very indecisive when it comes to selecting an outfit for an event (this weekend I tried on five outfits before going out to dinner for a party), so I have three different Thanksgiving looks to share today! The first look is definitely the most formal, I paired my favorite black lace skit with a plaid shirt, nude pumps and a pearl statement necklace. For a more formal dinner, you could also opt for a dress, but I think that pearls and heels make any look more dressy. The second look is very simple and casual, I wore green cords, a white cable knit sweater and plaid scarf. Finally, the third look is semi-formal and I typically end up wearing some variation of this look every year. I wore my favorite J. Crew sweater dress with the perfect fall hues, a puffer vest, riding books and simple jewelry. What is your go-to Thanksgiving look, I am always looking for new ideas?

Outfit One: Formal

Shirt- J. Crew Factory (old) similar | Skirt- J. Crew Factory | Necklace- J. Crew Factory | Bracelet- J. Crew Factory | Heels- Target

 Outfit Two: Casual

Outfit Three: Semi-Formal

Friday Favorites

This week has been crazy, I guess it's that super hectic time of year again! This week will be followed by a busy weekend filled with lots of school related activities. I just keep telling myself to brave out the next few days because the Thanksgiving break will be here shortly!

One: iPhone 6
This week my new phone arrived and I could not be more excited! I had the iPhone 5 for two years, it was great while it lasted, but by the end it would not hold a charge which was extremely aggravating! The adjustment to the size is not as bad as I thought it would be, infact I actually like the bigger size and the camera is AMAZING- perfect for snapping some good quality insta pics on the go :) Leave a comment if you want to see a "What's on my iPhone" post! I purchased this hot pink Kate Spade case (25% off with the code OHJOY) it's so simple but I love it! Also, Lilly Pulitzer released their iPhone 6 cases yesterday Tusk in Sun//Let's Cha Cha//First Impressions

Two: Bean Boots
The temperatures dropped significantly this week, so I found myself wearing my bean boots quite a few times. Did you see my post about socks to wear with bean boots earlier this week?

Three: Charles River Apparel Pullover
I have been loving my emerald green pullover, it is so cozy and makes the perfect layering piece! Make sure you head on over to our Instagram (@preppybythesea) and enter to win one for yourself-giveaway ends tonight!

Match Made in Heaven

With no sight of any temperatures above 50 degrees, I think it is time for me to finally embrace the cold (and maybe start wearing a jacket). Although I am completely dreading winter, it is officially bean boot weather! I purchased a pair of bean boots three years ago and they have been my go-to winter shoe ever since then! L.L. Bean guarantees great quality, which I can vouch for that because my mom still has her bean boots from college and they are still going strong :) If you are interested in purchasing a pair I recommend doing it sooner rather than later because I know that last year around the holidays they were completely sold out! Anyways, one of my favorite things about bean boots are the adorable socks that you get to wear with them. Fun socks are definitely one of my weaknesses. Whenever I am in a store I always justify picking up a few pairs because I swear the drier mysteriously eats them every time! Below are a few of my favorites that would add a cute pop to any outfit, plus they make a great stocking stuffer!

One of my favorite pictures of my bean boots last from a post last year when I was in California. These red fair isle socks are from Gap and I love the pop of color they add with to the look.

Georgetown Neighborhoods

Leaves changing, sun shining, temperatures around 70 degrees, November in Georgetown could not be any more perfect. There is something so nice about quaint little neighborhoods in the city, they have such a nice feel (less of the overwhelming big-city effect) and I could one hundred precent imagine myself living there. The architecture of the homes was absolutely stunning. The perfect little details including window boxes, colorful doors and shutters were just the icing on the cake. Here are a few lot of pictures I took while we strolled down the cobblestone streets last weekend! I think that every single home was Pinterest perfect #housegoals
