Gift Guide: Men

I think that we can all probably agree that guys are the hardest people to shop for during the holidays, so I decided to post this gift guide a bit earlier to give you a head start! Whether you are looking for your brother, boyfriend, husband, dad, or grandfather odds are you will encounter some challenges. For the most part, I think that these items would appeal to men of all ages and styles as they are all relatively basic things. Socks, slippers, and wallets are pretty safe choices, however if you know their tastes you can make it a bit more personal. My dad got a fitbit a few months ago and he is obsessed with it, so if you know the guy you're shopping for works out a lot this would be a great gift, plus it's under $100. Add a nice card to any of these things and I am positive that you will make any man in your life happy!

November Playlist

This month's playlist is all over the place, spanning from oldies and some current chart toppers. I have never been a fan of Justin Bieber, but sorry pretty much changed my perspective. My friends and I have had this song on loop all month! Also, like 99% of people, I am also obsessed with Hello. There was a lull in pop music for a while, but recently artists have been stepping up their game!  What are your current favorites, I'm always looking for new songs to add to playlists?

10 Under $10

As you all know, the holiday season (aka my favorite time of the year) is quickly approaching. While I'm always a fan of small, trinket-like gifts, yet theres a difference between gifting something little that someone actually wants, or giving that little thing you know will sit in someone's dresser drawer and never get used. I find myself drawn to these little things, yet I have to say to myself "does anyone really want this?" before I buy, because I would literally waste my money on useless things (#confessionsofashopaholic). That being said, I've been shopping around and finding little things that are both useful and budget friendly, the perfect gift to give to all your friends just to show how much you care during the most wonderful time of the year!

Seventeen

Today I turn seventeen. It's unbelievable how fast the past year went by. When I was little, I always thought that sixteen was so old, yet I still feel like I am little freshman. This past year was great, I got my license, my first car, and went abroad for the first time. It's crazy to think about everything that will happen this year, after all it's my last year before I am officially an "adult". I will take the SAT and ACT, complete college applications, and eventually decide on a school. As nerve wracking as it is, everything is so exciting and new and I cannot wait to see what is in store. I am so happy to be spending my birthday on the Cape this year and enjoy a delicious dinner with my family! Here's to being able to watch R-rated movies ;)

Thanksgiving Outfit

dress similar | boots | bracelets 1 & 2 | necklace | earrings | sunglasses

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope your day is filled with family, friends, and lots of delicious food! I just want to take a moment to thank every one of you. Preppy by the Sea has become such a big part of my life and I am so thankful for anyone that reads the blog. I love connecting with readers, so if you ever want to chat, leave a comment, or send us an email! My Thanksgiving is going to be pretty small and casual, so I think that this outfit would be perfect. I don't know about you, but I plan on eating lots of pie and mashed potatoes, so a dress is usually the more comfortable option- plus it hides the food baby :) I purchased this dress at Gap a few years ago and completely forget that I owned it. The colors are great for this time of year, and it's flannel so its super cozy for chilly days. I opted for a bunch of gold jewelry to dress up the look, and my booties for a little extra height! What are you wearing today?

Steal Her Style: Karlie Kloss

coat | pants | tee | heels | bag | sunglasses | lipstick

Karlie Kloss is one of my favorite style icons, her style is fun but not too over the top, and she also wears a ton of classics. I am obsessed with her YouTube channel, Klossy. Her videos are adorable, and she talks about everything from cooking, to fitness, and blogs of her shoots. Also, she's best friends with Taylor Swift, so they're pretty much the ultimate duo. I love this look from Paris, the pieces are all so simple, but the pattens on her jacket along with the successful pairing of navy and black tie it all together. Are you a fan of Karlie Kloss?

V Neck & Ripped Jeans

I am so excited to be sharing this outfit on the blog! After four times shooting it, and something going wrong each time, I am finally content with the way the photos turned out! I have been on the hunt for a pair of ripped jeans since this summer and finally found a pair that I liked. I look ridiculous in boyfriend jeans, so those were quickly ruled out and I did not want too much distressing. I found a pair at J. Crew that was absolutely perfect, but they were too short on me and the tall was sold out in my size. I was willing to pay the heftier price tag, but when I stumbled upon these at Old Navy and they fit like a glove, how could I say no? Also, they're under $30 #winwin! I love how simplistic this outfit is, plus this might be the coziest sweater ever!

Gift Guide: Under $25

stationary | earrings | scarf | perfume | candle | necklace | zebra dish | mug | minimergency kit | lipgloss

I am so excited to finally be starting my gift guides for the 2015 holiday season! There will be a new guide every monday from now until Christmas. There is nothing I love more than the the cozy fires, Christmas trees, cookies, and music that come with the holiday festivities. Shopping for gifts is one of my favorite things, so I thought that I would start with some cute and inexpensive ideas for the first week. During December there are so many parties that involve secret santa or a yankee swap. All under $25, anything on this list would be great for friends. One of the best things about the holidays is that every store has tons of sales, so you might even be able to stag a high priced item for a steal! What are your go-to items for gift exchanges between friends?

My Real Week

Do you ever have one of those weeks that just lingers on and on and you are absolutely miserable? Well, that was what this past week has been for me. School got extremely busy, with tests, projects, essays, and labs in every class. It's junior year and it is going to be difficult, I know. Every time I go out and someone asks me what grade I am in and I respond "junior", looks of sympathy flash on their face and they always talk about how it's a tough year. It's actually kind of funny that everyone has the same reaction. What I am trying to say is that this is just one year and I need to power through and deal to get my grades up as a high as possible by the time I start applying to colleges next year. So, in the wise words of Taylor Swift "shake it off"!

I honestly felt so guilty about the lack of posts this week and the mediocre content I put up. There is nothing I love more than blogging, but I would be crazy if I did not admit that it can become stressful at points. This week was sort of a learning experience for both my school life and blog life. I realized that it is okay if I miss a day or two of posts here and there, because school does come first. Compromising the quality of posts that I produce for content is not something that I want to do, so if there are ever days that no post goes up just blame it one junior year :) Last night, I had a blogging breakthrough and drafted a ton of posts (including gift guides for every monday until christmas), so I am beyond happy to have quality content coming your way soon! Although my week was pretty horrible, I put my school work first and have seen it pay off. I put a ton of time into studying for my Econ test and did well which was such a relief. Also, I have an in class essay for AP Lang today- fingers crossed for that one!

I apologize for not having up the typical friday favorites post this week, but I failed in the social media department as well and honestly did not have anything worth sharing. This was somewhat of a rant post, but I thought I should explain my absences and get a little bit more personal with you. Yes, I could share old pictures or snap a random one, but that is not "real". People have been taking about the "perfect" lives everyone tries to depict on social media, and I completely agree. We all have bad days where we rock our favorite sweat pants and dad's old sweatshirt and stay up way too late doing work, but would anyone post that? No. I think everyone is way to caught up with their Instagram "themes" and false portrayal of their lives. So there was that little rant. I am so excited for the weekend and a fresh start next week! I have a feeling that it is going to be a great one between Thanksgiving and my birthday!

Recipe: Raspberry Bread

This is one of my all time favorite baked goods, the recipe is so easy and it is absolutely delicious. I got this recipe from my friends mom a few years ago and has become one of my go-to treats ever since! I have made it with blueberries and cranberries as well, so if raspberries are not your favorite you can easily substitute other things. The topping gives it a little extra sweetness and crunch, but you can also opt to go without it.

Prep time 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 325 degrees and bake for one hour.

Directions: Mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar,  and salt together in a large bowl. Next, beat the two eggs and add to the mixture along with the orange juice. Boil water and mix with butter to melt and avoid chunks. Before adding the raspberries to the mixture, sprinkle them with flour and then gently fold into the bowl. Pour this into pans (recipe makes to loafs)

For the topping, mix together cinnamon, sugar, and flour in a small bowl. Cut the chilled butter into small pieces and add to bowl. Finally, pour the topping over the loaves and put in oven.

Enjoy!
