Calm Seas and Croakies// Apparel by PW

Croakies are literally my saving grace in the summer, they have stopped me from loosing my Ray-Bans in the bottom of the ocean multiple times and from getting crushed in the bottom of a beach bag. Apparel by PW is a new company based out of our home city, Boston, MA and was founded in 2013. All of their products are high quality and handcrafted in the United States. They represent a classic and preppy New England style. We received the turquoise and fuchsia sailor's knot sunglass straps from their summer collection which you can now pre-order for $27.50. The colorful braided rope adds the perfect pop to any summer outfit. One of the reasons that I love these croakies so much is because they remind me of the rope bracelets I would get every summer on Cape Cod when I was little. Now I have a similar yet more sophisticated summer look! Apparel by PW is not only limited to sunglasses straps, they also have a wide variety of key fobs, belts and tee shirts.

The small tag on the back can be worn facing in or out, personally I think the patch looks cute so I wore it facing out.

On Wednesdays We Want Pink!

I am honestly so proud of myself because I have not purchased anything online for over a month, however this week I have been drawn to a few items and coincidentally they all happen to be pink! The Kate Spade cross body is currently part of the surprise sale and only $69, I can't decide if I should pass or purchase! A few weeks ago I tried on the Lilly Pulitzer elephant tank at In the Pink and fell in love, this will be my next purchase (hopefully at the Mid-Summer Sale!) Happy Wednesday and remember, wear pink and make the boys wink ;)

Baseball Hats

Summer is really a time where you can be as lazy as you want without being judged. Don't get me wrong, I wear pretty cute outfits during the summer, but sometimes nike shorts, an oversized tee shirt, and a baseball hat are the only way to go after sleeping until 11:30. I believe that I have come pretty close to perfecting the art of the baseball hat. Running errands, beach days or boating just got so much easier! You don't have to deal with the mane (how I refer to my hair when I wake up or after swimming in the ocean) or freak out if you haven't washed your hair in a while. Not only are baseball hats functional when you are lazy but they are actually quite cute! I have quite the collection, but my favorites are from Vineyard Vines, Southern Marsh, Southern Proper and Marley Lilly.

Southern Marsh
I love seersucker, so naturally I love this hat. The only thing that I don't like is that it is a little bit flimsy, however it has a leather strap in the back which I think is a nice classic touch.

Marley Lilly
I have this hat in white with my monogram in the circle block font in navy

Southern Proper
I got this hat for Valentine's Day and I have yet to wear it, however it is super unique and the pink gingham adds the perfect pop of color to any summer outfit!

Vineyard Vines
I have a pink vineyard vines hat with a small navy whale and it is my favorite hat, it is great quality and matches everything. Still not over the fact that I never purchased the american flag whale hat last year...

Vineyard Vines and Southern Tide for some afternoon golf

Vineyard Vines and the Frat Collection last winter {seen in Styling Bean Boots}

Southern Proper gingham hat- fun summer pattern mixing!

New York, I Love You XOXO

A few months back we stumbled across the Smart Girls Group Summit, a conference at Fordham University in New York City and decided that it would be a fun adventure for the summer! Julianna, Clare (our good friend) and I all took the train down from Boston to NYC ready to attend the Summit and explore the city. Promptly after arriving and checking into our hotel we headed over to Madison and 5th Avenue to do some shopping! The first place we stopped into was Lilly Pulitzer, after that we went to Madewell, Kate Spade, J. Crew, C. Wonder and Sephora. If you are panning a trip to the city any time soon, I highly recommend using Uber, a car service that is cleaner, less expensive and more efficient than a regular old yellow cab.

Walking down the beautiful streets of the Upper East Side definitely channeled our inner Blair Waldorf, plus how could you not stop to appreciate the distinctive architecture?

The Empire State Building made an appearance on our stroll to Kate Spade

We stayed at the Empire Hotel, as in Chuck's hotel in Gossip Girl which was super exciting and the rooftop view was perfect!

Wednesday morning the conference began, and impressive would be an understatement! Emily, the founder of the Smart Girls Group, did a terrific job organizing the event and speakers. Each panel represented and defined success in a different way, whether it was being the founder/CEO of an organization or a news anchor.  Throughout the two days and 18 hours spend listening to each person speak, I realized that it was their incredible leadership skills and confidence that helped build their success and personal growth. Presenting yourself in a positive and confident way during any aspect of life, professional or not is the key to success.  Other people are impressed by these attributes and will likely want to form new relationships with you. The last panel focused on blogging and branding, which as bloggers we found very helpful. Carly from The College Prepster and Mackenzie from Design Darling who are both incredibly successful and inspirational bloggers spoke. The topic of self branding was discussed quite frequently, as obvious as this may sound all of your social media and blogs are ways of self branding. It is extremely important that you present yourself is a positive and respectable way on all of your sites because colleges and companies will look at them as part of your résumé. Through out the two days we were able to learn a great deal of information about social media, classes recommended to take in college that will benefit you later on in the "real world", steps to build an impressive résumé and the importance of finding a passion and dedicating your career to it. We will definitely be back next year!

A smart girl is inspiring, a leader and fun!

Here are some OOTD pictures from day two of the Conference! Sorry for the bad quality photos in this post, I forgot to bring my good camera so they are all taken on iPhones.

You know you love us!

Preppy by the Sea Turns One!

365 days, 250 blog posts, 2 girls, and countless lessons learned. Over the past year we have most definitely had our ups and downs here on Preppy by the Sea and want to share our top five best posts and top five worst posts to celebrate our one-year anniversary. We started the blog last summer pretty much out of boredom and it has now become a passion that we love! The past year has been full of learning experiences that were crucial for the growth of our blog. First, we struggled with the formatting of blogger. If you work on this platform you probably know that it is not exactly user friendly and we are still getting the hang of things. We have had the privilege to collaborate with other companies and learn from other amazing girls in the blogger community. Between BlogLovin', Instagram and Twitter we have gained so many followers and viewers, so thank you to everyone who has followed us through our journey. Throughout the next year we hope to maintain more consistency with our posts, expand our connections and continue to work on the appearance of the site. Without further ado, let's get into the fun!

THE WORST
We have had our off days and want to share with you what we think are the top five worst posts from the year...

Here we have our overall worst post ever, fall was definitely not looking super fashionable in this post, just click the link- laughs guaranteed!

A valid attempt but it just failed so miserably. The pictures are crooked and there are hardly any outfit pictures...

A picture speaks a thousand words! Plus who doesn't love hanging on trees :)

I don't even know, it's just rough. The outfit had potential, I guess...

I just got my new camera for Christmas and still did not really know how to use it. Also, Note to self don't blog while watching the ball drop at a party with tons of families, the result is far from perfect. New Years resolution- use more than two pictures in a blog post.

Honorable Mention
Maybe not the worst, but still pretty bad…

Nope, I'm pretty sure no one said it. Shoutout to the blog moms for the idea to use the whale decoration as a prop. It was a bad one.

THE BEST
Going through the blog and looking at the best posts makes the past year so amazing. Despite some days where there was a lack of motivation or crazy busy schedules the final result of these posts makes it all worth it!

This post was from last August yet we think it could always remain our number one post. The lighting at our country club was perfection that night, white dresses are so classic and the quality is great!

This post just has some fun memories attached with it and the photos are super cute! We were bored one day last summer so we went to T.J. Maxx and bought matching maxi dresses, later we took pictures down at the beach! It was a fun day and one of our first posts.

Bean boots are my go-to winter shoe for New England weather, so I thought I would do a post styling them with three completely different types of outfits. This picture went "viral" on Pinterest, it is one of the first things that comes up when you search "frat collection" and it has literally brought in 1/10 of our total page views!

This post is the first time pattern mixing is shown and it looks adorable! These are definitely a favorite pair of Lilly shorts- who doesn't love anchors!?

The outfit is this post is pretty simple, but I don't think that the scenery could get any better- absolutely breathtaking!

Honorable Mentions
Although these posts did not quite make the cut for the top five we did not want to leave them out!

The scenery is exquisite, the outfit is adorable; this post JUST missed the top five.

The outfit in this post is a great example of casual spring attire. Plus, who doesn't love a beach setting?

The most recent of the posts to make the list, Pop of Pink is a great example of how far we have come as bloggers! The quality of the pictures and and vibrant colors are awesome.

Overall, just a really nice post.  Solid outfit and scenery along with being well accessorized. Plus, that jeweled sweater from J. Crew is by far my favorite winter sweater.

So what do you think?  Did we miss a really good post or overlook a bad one? Let us know what your favorite Preppy by the Sea post was and other thoughts in the comments!
